Good and bad are like two sides of the one and the same coin. We have the good and the bad in us. None of us are perfect. We cannot separate it either. Goodness becomes visible only because of the bad in stark contrast to it. Have we not witnessed people who are smiling one moment to fly into a rage the next moment and do something out of control? Where do we draw this thin line of distinction?
Night and day, black and white, sun and moon, male and female, hot and cold, lightness and darkness, life and death – these are opposites which merge into each other too. So also Good and Bad.
It is all a matter of perception. We fail to see the Unity in the Bigger Plan and the bigger picture. Just like we say that darkness is only the absence of Light, we can say that bad is just the absence of good.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. – Romans 12:21
The instruction is very clear. We are not to retaliate or avenge the wrongdoings that others inflict upon us. A curse is to be returned with a blessing and good is to be returned for all evil. Love all those who hate us, pray for enemies – the calling upon us is not of the ordinary. It is out-of-the-ordinary!
In all these guidelines we can see that the emphasis is upon ourselves. The other person, people or their actions are not the concern here. We ought to forgive, be patient, do good, love endlessly, bless and pray for all, so that we receive the bountiful blessings in our lives. The focus is on how our lives can be made richer, fuller and more peaceful.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, Thank you for Your Wonderful Creation and for making us a part of it. We acknowledge the existence of good and bad. But we take these two for granted and sometimes act in a way that is totally against the rules of Life.Teach us patiently to overcome evil with good and to spread the Light of Love and Kindness wherever we are. Fill us with Your Grace and Peace. In Your Name. Amen.
God bless us all.
