“Life is a boomerang. What you give, you get.”
It is Christmas Time round the corner. Now will start the the season of holidaying, merrymaking, fun, frolic, shopping and in this day and age -Showing Off ! Businesses, media, communications and people at large vie with each other during this festive occasion to showcase the best of what they have to promote their wares, goods and services. The ‘Buying Bug’ will bite man, woman, child, teenagers, the youth and the old ones. Everywhere there will be shoppers hoarding up early so as to avoid last-minute-rush.
In the midst of it all, it is interesting to note that Christmas is the time when people generally think in terms of ‘giving’. It would be wonderful if people gave as generously throughout the year, although perhaps it may not be possible. Amazingly studies have found that most of the ‘giving’ happens during those last few days of Christmas and also towards the last two days ending the year. Probably they want to end the year also with the feel-good factor.
“You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.” Kahlil Gibran
The ecstasy of sharing gifts or receiving gifts is short-lived, though the feeling at that moment is great. But when we truly give from our hearts and help others less fortunate than us to better their lives, then that inner joy leaps up within us and nourishes our soul. Seeing the others’ happiness provides an intrinsic reward that is far beyond words, to be explained. Giving liberates the soul of the giver.
Giving yourself to serve others, however small an act it may seem, brings us true joy and allows us to expand beyond earthly limitations. Especially when it is done without expecting anything in return.
“If you have much, give of your wealth; if you have little, give of your heart.” Proverb
So much of unhappiness going around in the world is because of the self-centered lives each person is stuck with. If we could just look around with our hearts and eyes, we will find so much to contribute to, even if in a small way. If you feel empty, lonely – try doing something worthwhile for someone and see their smile, their happiness. All your worries will melt away. But do whatever you do wholeheartedly, passionately, sincerely and with enthusiasm. A Chinese proverb says: “If you always give, you will always have.”
“At the end it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” Denzel Washington
It’s the Love we share through giving to others that brings us true happiness or union with God. When we give, we experience the joy of bringing happiness to another beautiful soul. We all know that if people give just a little more of their time, skills, knowledge, compassion, wealth and love, the world would be a wonderful place to be in.
Think of it. No matter what your circumstances in life are, you have the ability to give as per your means. In giving , you receive. Look for opportunities where you can give and help others. The gift of joy will come to you when you give of yourself to others, share what you have or give away what you have to those in need. That’s what life is all about.
‘We are all on the same island working towards different goals. When we take a moment to acknowledge another person and give just a little of ourselves to another then we set forth amazing things.’ Scott Wyatt.
“Giving is the master key to success, in all applications of human life.” Bryant McGill
