Most of the ostentatious living that we opt for is not for ourselves. It is either to get a firm social standing, to be accepted socially or to be accepted among peers or family. Left to ourselves we would not want half the things that we buy with our hard-earned money. When the gloss of novelty wears away , there is no use for the thing on which great amounts have been amassed.
This Lenten season, let us set apart one thing (whether it be money, clothes or something that we have bought but never used) each day, to give out as charity, at the end of the season of fasting and prayer. We do not necessarily have to wait for an Easter or any other religious festival to opt to give charity. Giving should be a part of our daily Life.
Thinking of hoarding up for ourselves only makes us more selfish in our wants and needs. To have a life of abundance, we must hold fast to the truth that we have been ‘Given’ from the Source, so it is in us to share a portion of it with those who are in need.
‘Love of money’ is explained in 1 Timothy 6:10 in the Bible:
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
So let us not squander or love money more than The Creator or The Source from where we came. Leading a simple life, sharing and caring as we go along gives us an overwhelming sense of Happiness and Peace.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Thank You for looking after all our needs, especially our finances. We agree that we do spend carelessly at times and never give it a second thought. Forgive us our foolish behavior and revive us back to simplicity in our lives. You are our Provider: give us the Wisdom as we make decisions about money. And when we are tight for money, give us the Peace and Hope where we have none. Send us resources so that we never lack for anything. Let us never be afraid as You are near and will show us the right way. Fill us with Your Peace, Lord. In Your Name. Amen.
God bless you with His Peace in Abundance!
