There is no one perfect here on earth. All of us have flaws and we do make mistakes. That is what makes us so human .’To Err is Human’. But to go on erring and not learning from it, is unpardonable. Every time we make mistakes we should take stock of the situation and find out where we went wrong.
Usually we only ‘regret’ having made those mistakes, but we never sit down to an introspection or self-analysis. What happened actually? What and where did it go wrong? Instead of meeting the situation eye to eye, we want to escape. This escapist attitude will lead us nowhere.
Learn to use these experiences to your advantage:
Haven’t we heard about the donkey shaking off the mud from its back and stepping on it every time the villagers threw mud into the pit, to bury him alive? So when it was level ground (with the mud having filled up the pit), the donkey smartly walked off. What still amazes me in the story is that the donkey was clever (no doubt!) but does that mean that the villagers were dumb? Could they not foresee that the donkey would escape in no time?
So it is with Life. Just a bit of forethought, action and perseverance can get us to success. We only need to be a bit more alert, shrewd and not give up so easily.
In our spiritual life too, we need to be humble enough to accept that we do make mistakes and that we need the forgiveness from the Lord, to walk clean in all that we do. Here we have a Father who is always willing to forgive us our wrongs, if we are truly repentant about it and confess it before him.
1 John 1:8,9 says:
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins,He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Let our prayer be:
Dear Lord, We come to You for cleansing ourselves of any guilt for having made mistakes and for not having learnt from those experiences. Cleanse us also from all selfishness, resentment, critical feelings for our fellow beings and any other averse feelings we may harbor within us. Fill us with generosity, appreciation for self and for others, praise and gratitude. Help us gain life experiences through these mistakes and make our way to success. In Your name. Amen.
God bless us all with His Abundant Grace and Mercy!
