To Love and To Forgive: the sure bet to be Happy. Loving is a pleasure but forgiving someone is really a difficult task. It is a tug-of-war in the mind for anyone.
A hundred-fold questions arise in our minds as we struggle to quell the Rising Ego within.
Why do we need to forgive? Does it reverse the things that have happened to us? Does it mean the person who wronged us doesn’t have to take responsibility for his/her actions? How is it that we are always held to task while the others who do wrong to us are let off scot-free? Somehow we seem to be eating dust while all others stand up with swelled pride and look down upon us.
Are not laws equal for all? Or is it that some are more equal than others..even in the spiritual world and even before God?
No, not at all.
We are not looking at their side of the story now.
When ‘we’ forgive, we will be free from the thoughts of hatred and bitterness and the burden they are in our minds. Forgiveness is not only done for the sake of the one we are forgiving, but for our own sake, so that we don’t have to live with the heavy weight that bears down on us. Having forgiven, we feel as if a heavy stone is lifted off our chest.
Peace envelops us. It is to experience this our Peace and walk in Peace that we need to forgive. Not for the other person.
John 15:12 of the Bible tells us:
“…Love each other as I have loved you…”
Jesus talks to His disciples about how they need to remain His Love. If they obeyed His commands they would remain in His Love. He asks them to love each other as He has loved them: such Love as would give up one’s life for the other. There is no greater Love than this, He says.
We think of love as a feeling we have, of affection toward another. Each of us define Love on our own terms and conditions. Notice that there will always be some condition attached directly or indirectly. Human Love will have strings attached to it.
But love, as Jesus speaks of it here, is far different. Unconditional Love which only gives and does not take .
Be always humble, gentle, and patient. Show your love by being tolerant with one another. Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds you together. (Ephesians 4:2-3)
Prayer:
Thank you for reminding us that we need to Love and Forgive each other in our daily Lives. Help us, Lord, to forgive those who have wronged us and to love those who dislike and hate us. May we follow Your footsteps and spread Healing Energy wherever we are. Fill us with Your Love and Grace to carry ourselves through the day. In Your Name. Amen.
God bless us all and fill us with Love in abundance.
