Success stories abound everywhere !!
With the onset of vast media coverage, you can read, get to see and hear all the successful people coming out with miracle formulas. But seriously, is there an equation, which when applied, will have success knocking at your door and say “Hey! I’m here! Let’s work out the details ! I’ll take over from this point.”?
No. Surely not.
Whether it be for your exams (Read: Top tips To Get Yourself Motivated To Study For Exams), for your workplace, or for a new business venture ( startup) success, eagerly reading blogs or articles and feeling motivated just for that moment is good enough, but you lose the thread within some time. Why is that you are not able to keep up with that pace that you feel in spurts ?
Lets see why.
Intrinsic Vs Extrinsic Motivational Role in Success Levels:
“I arise full of eagerness and energy, knowing well what achievement lies ahead of me.” – Zane Grey.
” When the sun is shining, I can do anything; no mountain is too high, no trouble too difficult to overcome.” – Wilma Rudolph.
This is it ! The motivation should come from the inside. Self induced. Intrinsically motivated people do not have the end reward or gift in mind. Zest or zeal overrides all other expectations.
The pulse and the vibrancy that they feel within pulls them towards new experiences. They shape their destiny by determining their purpose and strategising their goals.
The urge to learn new things and to grow drives them on.
Overcoming hurdles on the way and the ardent desire to succeed at any cost becomes a passion. They nurture their ‘desire’ or ‘dream’ and work towards it, bit by bit.
Nothing Stops Them.
Limitations in any sphere of their lives do not bog them down. If one way gets blocked, they are willing to try another, even if it means sacrificing their time, energy or resources. They like taking risks – it becomes an adventure for them as they literally move out of their comfort zone to achieve results.
Their moments of decision-making and goals, their questioning minds seeking to know, their belief in themselves and their action-packed moments in life lead to turning the ‘invisible’ into the ‘visible.’
Extrinsically Motivated People, on the other hand, are always on the lookout and the search for ‘rewards’ or ‘gifts.’ They train their minds to believe that ‘If I do this, I get that.’
That attitude in itself kills the self motivating factor and the creativity. Seekers of attention and wanting to be motivated by external factors all the time, they hardly take the step out of their comfort zones.
They believe that everything that they seek for in life, will be given to them on a platter. Their paths are ‘Shortcuts-to-Success’ ridden and they take any failure as a signal that they are no good at anything. Thus their beliefs are set and fixed – any change or out-of-the-box thinking instills fear of failure within their mind.
Your limitations are only in your imagination !
Comfort zones turn you into a procrastinator and a blame-gamer . Happiness, wealth and a great career purpose have all come out of sheer hard work. Committed and passionate workers do not stop to rest when they are tired. They stop only when their task is done. No two ways about it!
Practical wisdom to Success seekers:
Now that we have found out where the missing link is and you still want to work your way up to success in whichever field you choose, here are a few tips on how to go about it.
-
Write out your Life Purpose:
Write down clearly the Aim in your Life – a simple affirmation in about 5-10 lines. Read it out loud for you to hear. Close your eyes, visualizing the outcome. Mentally rehearse the outcome.
Activate the genius part of the brain by reading this aloud every day.
-
Read or listen to worthy inspirational messages:
There are a million positive thinking books out there for you to go through. (if you are a habitual reader)
The Power Of Positive Thinking – Norman Vincent Peale
Unlimited Power:The New Science Of Personal Achievement – Anthony Robbins
Think And Grow Rich –Napoleon Hill
These are only some of the all-time favorites. In this day and age, where no one seems to have time, reading habits may seem too much to ask for. But good books have been constant companions to all those who have gone through life’s topsy-turvy rides.
Inspirational words of wisdom are to be found in all nooks and corners of the social media and motivationals are there, sharing all the power they can to the ‘success’ oriented.
-
“Success is intentional”:
Look around you and choose role models whose key attributes you can imbibe from. Just as we need mentors, we also need to look at the Success Cycle of others who have made it to the top.
Studies have interestingly shown that back benchers are for the most part, toppers later on. How does this happen? Even though there are some who land in the success ring without much effort (that’s what we think !), others do plan their moves.
The Success Cycle shows that it is through Beliefs, Potential, Actions and Results that this Ripple Effect is created.
When you believe in yourself and in the Purpose before you, you allow yourself to get influenced by external and internal positive factors (the potential is aroused), which will trigger off actions, finally leading to results.
Remember: The First Move is the most arduous task but that is what causes the consequential rumble. So Get Moving.
-
Rewire Yourself:
Now this is the life changing part. All this while you have been saying, “I should be doing this or that.” ( ‘Should ‘ only means ‘maybe’)
Change your pattern to saying “I MUST” ( definitive action which holds you responsible. Any transition and pattern change of life must hold a reason for yourself). People get their ‘musts’ right !! There will be a change in you too !
-
Take massive, life changing action and feel the difference:
“If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got.”
So also with decisions. Change your old patterns of thinking and make fresh new decisions with the intent of seeing them carried through. Decisions take only a minute to make, but the ensuing action takes a long time – needs planning, and then, the resulting change is forever and tremendous.
Decide to be healthy. Stay fit in body and mind. Have a clear perspective of everything in your life. Write down your daily notes, not forgetting your affirmations. Rebrand yourself, all the while inching towards your goal and never losing sight of it.
-
Growth and Success:
With all the extra effort you have taken, you are bound to grow over the years and be successful. When you are finally in the hot seat, remember to share your ‘success’ stories with the next in line. Every story of ‘success’ is different !
If you have not traveled that extra mile, if you have not progressed or grown over the years, then, sad to say, you will always have to settle for the back seat.
Even then there is a silver lining to that cloud. Success does not only mean getting to the top in your career. Or anything related with money either. It could well be the defining factor of your life – how happy you have been through life and how you have served the Higher Purpose and been successful. Success would also relate to how you made others happy in your servitude and thus enhanced your qualities and grown out into a ‘good’ human being !

Quotes:
Finally here are a few quotes I thought would help as a backup for you.
“Keep your face always towards the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you.” – Walt Whitman
“Follow your bliss, and the universe will opens doors where there were only walls.” – Joseph Campbell
” We can change our lives. We can do, have and be exactly what we wish.” – Anthony Robbins
” Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” – Jim Rohn
” It is always the simple that produces the marvelous.” – Amelia Barr
So do something today that your future self will thank you for. It is going to be ‘hard’, but ‘hard’ does not mean ‘impossible’.
Don’t wait for opportunity . Create it. Dream it. Believe it. Build it. Enjoy Success.
