THOUGHTS DO COUNT

There is nothing in this world that can trouble us like our own thoughts. We hate being alone even for a minute because of the myriad inter-connected, sharp-shooting thoughts running in our heads, wreaking havoc. These can create Heaven or Hell for us, depending on the perspective with which we view things. A mature mind learns to control those runaway wanderings of the mind, but for those who are yet to perceive everything in a truly mature sense, it becomes a herculean task to deal with their own thoughts.

2 Corinthians 10:5 of the Bible tells us:

…We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Taking our thoughts captive simply means gaining control over what we think about ourselves and life. We can achieve this by accepting responsibility for every thought of ours, by changing our mental-makeup, apart from our behavior. Instead of getting trapped by our disabling thoughts, we could think through our problems, instead of reacting to them too soon. Turn over these ramblings  to the Lord and ask for help.

Focusing on noble things and veering our attention away from the bad, God promises to give us Peace. There is no how-to formula for this. It takes personal discipline and commitment to train our minds to steer clear of unwanted, unnecessary and unwarranted reactions from our own brains.

It is possible to live a life aware of our thoughts and take them captive! We control our own Universe in the Head.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, Guard every thought that goes on around in our minds. Help us to leash and control the necessary ones and let go of the unnecessary. In Your Name. Amen.

God bless us and keep us in His Grace.
