How much do you love yourself? How proud are you to be you? The way you answer these questions determines your self-esteem. What you think about yourself and how much you value yourself is your self-esteem. It varies with people, it can range from high to low, or even in-between. 

To understand self-esteem, you need to evaluate yourself. What opinion do you have of yourself? Do you trust your abilities? If you’re confident about yourself, you have high self-esteem, and if you aren’t, you belong to the other end of the spectrum.  Everyone doubts themselves sometimes, but if you have low self-esteem you will be insecure about yourself. This can impact your life negatively by stopping you from doing what you love or chasing your dreams. 

There are several ways you can improve your self-esteem and they’re all easy to do. But they begin with you. 

Here are five things you can do to boost your self-esteem. 

1. Love yourself! 

How you speak to yourself and what you tell yourself influence how you see yourself. Self-esteem begins with self-care. The voice inside your head which constantly talks to you can either make you successful or drop you in despair depending on what you let it become. Create positivity within you and let your thoughts reflect it. Be kind to yourself. Talk to yourself as you talk to your friends when they feel low. Practice it consistently. Love yourself unconditionally. 

2. Accept Yourself for You!

Every motivational speaker stressed on the importance of a person accepting themselves.  Why? There’s a constant need for humans to feel worthy, and the easiest way is to compare themselves to someone else. Comparisons are best left for shopping. Comparing yourself with anyone else will lead nowhere. Every person is unique in themselves. Your goals and aspirations are not the same as the other person. The best course of action is to accept yourself for your perfections and imperfections, and focus on your dreams!

Don’t put extra pressure on yourself! 

3. Perfection is an Illusion!

Understand that nobody in this entire world is perfect. If they seem to be, it’s an illusion. Be the best version of yourself. Strive to be better than you were yesterday. Growth is always better than stagnant perfection. 

Make mistakes and learn from them. You can only learn from mistakes. Forgive yourself. Understand that perfection is only an illusion. Focus on yourself. There are only a few things you can control and one of them is you. Channel positivity into your life and thoughts. Create positivity out of negativity. Don’t let obstacles hold you back. 

Don’t forget to celebrate the little things that you achieve. Success can come in various forms, from the perfect poached egg to a business deal closure. You might not be perfect, but you’re you. Celebrate it. 

4. Make Time for the Things You LOVE!

We run through our lives never taking a moment to enjoy what we have. In such a hectic world, make sure you set aside some time every day for yourself which is just for you! Away from your phones and laptops, spend time doing something you love like writing or reading or just lazing about. Make time for the things that make you happy and satisfied. You get a huge boost of positivity if you just take a little time for yourself. 

5. Surround Yourself with People that Help You Grow!

This is important. Spend time with people who fill your life with positivity; people who help you grow and challenge you to be better every day. Surround yourself with people who understand and accept you for who you are. Your squad energy is a huge part of your life. Choose your people wisely. They can inspire you and boost your self-esteem. You’ll bloom with the right people and the right environment.
